H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF STELLA M. DEGREGORY

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Stella

2

"The Star" DeGregory, a centenarian and life-long resident of the Town of West Warwick; and

3

     WHEREAS, Ms. DeGregory was a precious gift, born on Christmas Day, 1915, the

4

daughter of the late Humberto and Angela DeGregory, who had emigrated from Italy. She was

5

the sister of Viola DeGregory, and the late Mario DiGregorio, Jerry DeGregory, Anthony

6

DeGregory, Angela DeGregory, Mary Grace Rose DeGregory-Lancellotta, and Anna DeGregory-

7

Landry. In addition to her sister, she is survived by her cherished nephew and nieces, beloved

8

Goddaughters, numerous caring cousins, and many, many devoted friends; and

9

     WHEREAS, A graduate of West Warwick High School, Ms. DeGregory had also had

10

training in business and finance, and was employed as an office employee and secretary at a

11

number of Pawtuxet River Valley historic mill complexes, and at Royal Mills for Davidson

12

Brothers for many years, ultimately taking a position as Fiscal Payroll Clerk for the Grinnell

13

Corporation until her retirement in 1980; and

14

     WHEREAS, Ms. DeGregory loved her family and friends, theater and cats, and was

15

committed to her faith and a devoted parishioner at Sacred Heart Church. She was also active in

16

myriad civic activities that included a panoply of service to others including scouting, disabled

17

citizens’ visitations, and cultural support activities; and

18

     WHEREAS, With a wealth of charm and compassion, Ms. DeGregory leaves a legacy of

19

sweet moments that gave warmth to the souls and joy to the hearts of those who shared her life.

She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2

Providence Plantations hereby offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends

3

of Ms. Stella M. DeGregory; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Ms. Viola DeGregory.
