JOYOUSLY CELEBRATING THE 100TH BIRTHDAY OF DR. JOHN T. MCBRIDE ON

FEBRUARY 12TH, 2018

     WHEREAS, Dr. John T. McBride was born in the Olneyville neighborhood of

2

Providence, Rhode Island on February 12, 1918, son of John and Anne McBride. He attended

3

Providence schools and graduated from Central High School. He also spent much of his free time

4

as a youngster at the Olneyville Boy's Club, where he learned to swim and became a lifeguard.

5

He served on the Civilian Construction Corps as a young man, working on projects in Maine and

6

Oregon. He later served our nation with honor in the United States Navy during World War II;

7

and

8

     WHEREAS, Dr. McBride graduated from the University of Rhode Island, where he also

9

played basketball, and Georgetown University Dental School. He later opened a dental practice in

10

Pascoag where he practiced for thirty years. He also practiced dentistry at Zambarano State

11

Hospital; and

12

     WHEREAS, Dr. McBride settled in Greenville with his wife Ellen and together they

13

raised four children, Marlene McBride Fisher, Dr. Jack McBride, Robert McBride, and Kristina

14

McBride Root. In addition to practicing dentistry and raising his family, Dr. McBride belonged to

15

the Glocester Country Club, was a Troop Leader with Boy Scout Troop 4, Greenville, and served

16

on the ski patrol at Pine Top and Ski Valley Ski areas. The McBride family belonged to the

17

RISKI ski club; and

18

     WHEREAS, Dr. McBride retired at the age of 70 and in his free time he has enjoyed

19

skiing, traveling, swimming at the Smithfield YMCA and going to Scarborough and East

Matunuck State Beaches. He continues to be devoted to his children, grandchildren and great-

2

grandchildren, and to the University of Rhode Island Rams basketball team; now, therefore be it

3

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

4

Providence Plantations hereby joyously celebrates the 100th birthday of Dr. John T. McBride;

5

and be it further

6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

7

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Dr. John T. McBride, Marlene McBride Fisher,

8

Dr. Jack McBride, Robert McBride and Kristina McBride Root.
