H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE NORTH SMITHFIELD BOYS' HOCKEY TEAM ON WINNING

THE RHODE ISLAND 2016 DIVISION II BOYS' STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

     WHEREAS, The North Smithfield Boys' Hockey Team, the defending Division II State

Champions, compiled an outstanding regular season divisional record of 13-5 and entered the

State Tournament as a three seed. The Northmen proceeded to sweep both Toll Gate and East

Greenwich to earn a berth in the finals against arch-rival Portsmouth; and

     WHEREAS, In the hard fought state finals against Portsmouth, the two schools split the

first two games. In the deciding game, the Northmen stifled Portsmouth's offense with stellar

goaltending and a strong fore check, and pounced on opportunities to score three goals and to

repeat as State Champions in convincing fashion by the score of 3 to 0; and

     WHEREAS, Winning a State Championship in a team sport is a difficult

accomplishment, one requiring that every member of the team gives their all and unselfishly puts

team goals ahead of personal aspirations. The North Smithfield Boys' Hockey Team had those

qualities in abundance as they were led all season by the significant contributions provided by

Captains Matthew R. Barrette, Kyle V. Evangelista, and Riley A. Boucher, along with teammates

Deven T. Cote, Matthew S. Pasquariello, Andrew M. LaBelle, Adam Blakemore, Evan T. Moran,

Zachary Q. Racine, Nathan Lemoine, Jack A. Losardo, Keith J. Fineout, Nicholas P. Degnan,

Chase Tondreau, Noah R. Menard, Garet Reilly, Noah Darveau, Dante T. Driscoll, and Sean M.

Murphy. North Smithfield also benefitted all season by the exemplary leadership and coaching

provided by Head Coach Paul Nadeau and Assistant Coach James DeCelles; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the North Smithfield Boys' Hockey Team on

winning the Rhode Island 2016 Division II Boys' State Championship; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Paul Nadeau, Head Coach, North

Smithfield Boys' Hockey Team.
