H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING ROBERT MARTIN , CHIEF OF THE BRISTOL FIRE DEPARTMENT,

ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MANY YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE TO THE

CITIZENS OF BRISTOL

     WHEREAS, Bristol Fire Chief Robert Martin is retiring after more than ten years of

exemplary service to the Town of Bristol. He made the move from volunteer firefighter to Chief

when he was hired for this position in 2005. Prior to his promotion, he had served as a volunteer

firefighter, steadily rising through the ranks from 1st Driver to Captain to Assistant Chief, Deputy

Chief and, finally, Chief of the Bristol Fire Department; and

     WHEREAS, Chief Martin had numerous notable achievements during his tenure as the

Fire Chief in Bristol. Under his leadership and guidance, a new headquarters building was built

and several new pieces of apparatus were commissioned and acquired. As Chief, he fostered a

strong relationship with the Police Department and had great cooperation and rapport with the

Warren Fire Department. His foremost concern as Fire Chief was always the public health and

safety of the residents of Bristol; and

     WHEREAS, Chief Martin served our nation with honor and integrity for ten years as a

member of the United States Navy. He was a submariner and attained a Bachelor's degree in

Computer Engineering from Roger Williams University; and

     WHEREAS, Chief Martin has been married to Mary Martin for forty-three years, and has

a daughter, Rhiannon Martin. He is an avid golfer and is a passionate fan of the New York

Yankees and the New York Giants; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Bristol Fire Chief Robert Martin on his retirement

after many years of devoted and faithful service to the Town of Bristol. We wish him a most

happy retirement and continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Chief Robert Martin, Bristol Fire Department.
