CONGRATULATING EAST GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL QUARTERBACK NICK

ANDREOZZI ON WINNING THE 2015 GATORADE RHODE ISLAND FOOTBALL

PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

     WHEREAS, For the last thirty-one years, Gatorade has been honoring the best high

school athletes across the nation. The Gatorade Player of the Year program each year recognizes

one winner from each of the fifty states and the District of Columbia that plays high school

football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls

soccer, baseball, softball and boys and girls track and field. Gatorade also selects a National

Player of the Year Award in each of these sports. The Gatorade Award recognizes athletic

excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character ; and

     WHEREAS, Nick Andreozzi is the first East Greenwich High School Football Player to

win the Gatorade Football Player of the Year Award. Under Nick’s leadership and stewardship,

East Greenwich won the Division III State Title, defeating Lincoln in the Semi-Finals and

Classical in the Championship game. Nick in 2015 passed for an astounding 2,096 yards,

completing 137 of 199 passes, and throwing 35 touchdown passes. He also rushed for 322 yards

and 5 touchdowns on only 47 carries. He also maintained a strong B average in his coursework at

school and “represents one of the state’s top academic candidates in meeting the Gatorade

Award’s broad criteria.”; and

     WHEREAS, Often, the highest praise an athlete can receive are those compliments that

come from a rival player or coach. Nick Andreozzi was deeply respected and feared by the

opposition, with rival head coach Mike Gibbons, of Hope High School, saying of Nick, “he’s not

a big kid but is in full control of his offense and makes plays within his scheme as well as outside

of the script. A very accurate passer and quick on his feet, Nick makes plays as they come to

him”; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates East Greenwich High School Quarterback Nick

Andreozzi on winning the prestigious 2015 Gatorade Rhode Island Football Player of the Year

Award. We congratulate him for his achievements and wish him continued success in his future;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Nick Andreozzi.
