CELEBRATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF GLEN HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

     WHEREAS, Glen Hills Elementary School in Cranston, Rhode Island, was founded in

1965. For the past 50 years, the faculty, administrators and support staff have provided a

nurturing, safe, innovative and high quality education to each and every student who has attended

Glen Hills; and

     WHEREAS, The mission of Glen Hills Elementary School is "to provide an educational

environment which promises a love for learning, an appreciation for diversity, a willingness to

embrace change and a yearning to achieve one's personal best." Today, under the guidance and

leadership provided by Principal Jay DeCristofaro, along with outstanding teaching and tireless

work of the 24 teachers at Glen Hills, the mission statement is being fulfilled and an exemplary

educational experience is being provided to the more than 320 students currently attending Glen

Hills; and

     WHEREAS, In 2014, Glen Hills was named a commended school by the Rhode Island

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. A commended ranking is the highest

distinction for a school in the State of Rhode Island, and is based upon criteria including student

achievement and the performance of specific groups on state tests. Glen Hills outperformed the

average state proficiency rate in most categories, notably having 5th and 6th grade reading and

math proficiency levels that were significantly higher than the state averages; and

     WHEREAS, The accomplishments made by Glen Hills Elementary School have made a

positive impact on the educational experience of its pupils and is an achievement that will pay

dividends for years to come; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Glen Hills Elementary School on the joyous

occasion of its 50th Anniversary; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Jay DeCristofaro, Principal, Glen Hills

Elementary School.
