H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF KATHIE M. SANDBERG

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Kathie

2

M. Sandberg, the beloved wife of 43 years to John Sandberg, and the loving mother of one

3

daughter, Cassidy Sandberg; and

4

     WHEREAS, Born in Central Falls, Mrs. Sandberg was the daughter of Wanda Stott and

5

the late Thomas Stott, and the sister of Thomas Stott and Gary Stott; and

6

     WHEREAS, Prior to starting her family, Mrs. Sandberg had worked for AT&T (formally

7

New England Telephone), as the first female fraud director in the country; and

8

     WHEREAS, For more than twenty years, Mrs. Sandberg worked at The Children's

9

Workshop. She was one of the organization's first employees and through the years, had held

10

numerous positions within the company. Until her passing, Kathie had been the Field Operations

11

Manager and was "integral in the success of the day-to-day operation and staffing of their

12

nineteen current locations." Throughout her tenure with the company, Kathie had served the

13

families under her care with great passion and excellence; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Sandberg's twenty years with The Children's Workshop are

15

wholeheartedly commendable, but they were only one small portion of a life that included a

16

panoply of service to others. She had served as a liaison to several child care leadership groups

17

including the Rhode Island Child Care Director's Association and was very active with St Jude's

18

Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years, and serving on the parish finance

19

committee; and

     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that this kind and gentle soul left the world a far better

place because of her life’s work. Kathie Sandberg's efforts in uplifting the lives of Rhode Island's

2

children were boundless and an inspiration to us all. She enriched the lives of all who knew her

3

and she will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

4

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

5

Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Kathie M.

6

Sandberg. She will forever be remembered as a loving wife and mom, and for her warm smile

7

and infectious humor; and be it further

8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. John Sandberg and Family.
