EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF RAYMOND L. DRURY

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of

2

Raymond L. Drury. Better known as "Sean" by his family and many friends, he was the beloved

3

husband for forty-six years to his wife, Joanne Drury, and the devoted father of Beth Anne

4

Tanous and her husband, Thomas. He was also the very proud grandfather of four grandchildren,

5

Samuel Drury Tanous, Gabriel Thomas Tanous, Lucas Sean Tanous, and the late Connor "Patch"

6

Tanous; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Drury was born in Providence, a son of the late Leo and Catherine

8

Drury, and had lived in Riverside for the past 11 years. In addition to his immediate family, he is

9

survived by his brother, Leo Drury, his sister, Arleen Dmytryshyn, and a dear cousin, Corrine

10

Bindon; and

11

     WHEREAS, A graduate of Classical High School, Mr. Drury had received a Classic

12

Language degree from Catholic University, a Master's degree in Italian from Middlebury College,

13

and a Master's degree in Religious Studies from Providence College. He was also a recipient of a

14

certificate of Jewish Studies from Temple Beth El in Providence; and

15

     WHEREAS, By consistently demonstrating an abiding passion for teaching and instilling

16

young minds with the value of knowledge, Raymond Drury provided the cornerstone for a

17

brighter future for the students who had the good fortune to have called him their teacher. Before

18

retiring in 2007, he had been a classics teacher at Bay View Academy for 14 years. He had

19

previously taught at Mt. Hope High School for 24 years, at LaSalle Academy for 5 years, and at

20

the Marianapolis Preparatory School for three years; and

     WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Drury was an Adjunct Professor at Providence College for

2

20 years and was a former Christian Brother, and member of the Secular Franciscan Order. He

3

was also a member of the National Education Association and the Rhode Island Foreign

4

Language Association; and

5

     WHEREAS, Raymond Drury was blessed with the total love of his family and the

6

admiration and respect of generations of students, and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be

7

it

8

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

9

Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Raymond L.

10

Drury. There is no doubt that this kind and gentle soul left the world a far better place because of

11

his life’s work; and be it further

12

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

13

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Joanne Drury and Family.
