EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE LEFEBVRE FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF GUY

L. LEFEBVRE

     WHEREAS, Guy L. Lefebvre passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at his home. He

2

was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, a son of the late Roland and Dorothe Lefebvre. He was

3

the loving husband of Shirley M. Lefebvre for twenty-nine years; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lefebvre began his distinguished public service career as the Recreation

5

Program Supervisor in North Smithfield, a position he held until he was promoted to the position

6

of Parks Recreation Director in North Smithfield. He remained serving in this capacity until he

7

was chosen by the Town of Coventry to be its Director of Parks and Recreation; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lefebvre served the Town of Coventry as its Director of Parks and

9

Recreation for thirty-eight distinguished years and served its citizenry with honor and integrity.

10

He was responsible for the planning of numerous projects that have improved the daily lives of

11

Coventry's citizenry including the East Coast Greenway, the Coventry Greenway, Foster Park,

12

Central Coventry Parkway, Ravenwood Park, and the rebuilding of Rice Field. He developed the

13

Sandy Acres Recreational area through federal funding, and developed an array of other public

14

projects including the Summer Camp Program, 25 years of Tree Lightings and Egg Hunts, the

15

Summer Concert Series, the canoe and kayak launch in Anthony, the pavilion at Briar Point

16

Beach, and renovated the park at Anthony Village. Mr. Lefebvre also opened the longest running

17

Teen Center in Rhode Island, and was responsible for the completion of the 1000th rail-trail in

18

the United States, a segment of the East Coast Greenway that was created from abandoned

19

railroad tracks. For this latter achievement, Mr. Lefebvre received an award in 1998; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lefebvre was one of the founding members of the Rhode Island

2

Recreation and Parks Association. He served as their President from 1991 to 1993 and was

3

elected into their Hall of Fame. He received the Director of the Year award in 1990 and 2002, and

4

under his direction, the Coventry Parks and Recreation Department received the Department of

5

the Year Award in 2004 and 2011; and

6

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lefebvre preserved, developed, and maintained approximately 1,000

7

acres of land in parks throughout Coventry. His tireless work and dedication towards the

8

preservation of nature and open space in Coventry will be remembered and appreciated for many

9

years by generations of Coventry residents. The gifts he gave to the Town of Coventry are

10

immeasurable; and

11

     WHEREAS. In addition to his incredibly productive professional life, Mr. Lefebvre was

12

a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, nephew and son. He loved spending time

13

with family and friends on his pontoon boat. He also loved to travel, play golf, fish, garden, and

14

spend time in nature. He will forever remain in the hearts and memory of his family and friends,

15

and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him; and

16

     WHEREAS, Besides his wife Shirley, he leaves behind his daughter, Ashley B.

17

Lefebvre-Posillo, and her husband Joshua, a son, Matthew M. Lefebvre, a step-daughter, Nancy

18

L. Labossiere, and her husband William, a step-son, Michael J. Bertrand, and three brothers,

19

Yvon Lefebvre, and his wife Edythe, Richard Lefebvre, and Nelson Lefebvre, and his wife Anne.

20

He also leaves behind his uncle, Lawrence Cote, seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews,

21

and many cousins. He was the brother and brother-in-law of the late Sylvia (Lefebvre), and the

22

late Michael Carcieri; now, therefore be it

23

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

24

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences to the Lefebvre Family on the passing of

25

Guy L. Lefebvre; and be it further

26

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

27

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Shirley M. Lefebvre.
