H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING MEMBERS OF THE BISHOP HENDRICKEN

HIGH SCHOOL TEAM AND THE TEN GOLD MEDAL WINNERS FROM ACROSS THE

STATE ON THEIR VICTORIES AT THE RHODE ISLAND ACADEMIC DECATHLON

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Academic Decathlon was co-founded by John Howell,

publisher of the Warwick Beacon, in 1983. This rigorous competition tests the brain power and

overall knowledge and thinking skills of high school entrants from across the state, in subject

areas ranging from science to art to math, as well as speech, interview, and essay writing; and

     WHEREAS, For the fifth consecutive year, the team from Bishop Hendricken High

School of Warwick, under the tutelage of their coach, Sister Carol Anne Murray, RSM, took top

honors, winning the 32nd edition of the annual Decathlon, and continuing on to compete in the

National Competition which was held in California; and

     WHEREAS, Bishop Hendricken High School team members include Riley Chabot, Miles

Temel, Christian Wells, Geoffrey Boyer, Aidan Kendra, Nathan Tomasso, Nicolas Bassi, Mason

Cocroft, and Michael Moren. These distinguished future leaders of our state not only established

their academic prowess but also conducted themselves as true gentlemen throughout the

competitions; and

     WHEREAS, The Decathlon includes both a team competition component and awards

Gold Medals to distinguish individuals for their outstanding achievements. Senior class recipients

of the Gold Medals include Joseph Zurier, Aleksa Bzenic, Lily Ginsburg, and Camila Ramirez,

all from Classical High School, Sean Perrino from Cranston West High School, Kathy Luo from

East Greenwich High School, Mackenzie Carroll from Johnston High School, Elizabeth Heon

from La Salle Academy, Wynn Fisher from South Kingstown High School, and Gabriel Shaker

from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School; and

     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize our youth and to celebrate their

accomplishments. All the members of the Bishop Hendricken High School team and the

individual Decathlon Gold Medal winners exemplify everything that young people can achieve,

and they are truly deserving of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Bishop Hendricken team members and coach

and all the Gold Medal winners for their victories at the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon. We

moreover wish them much happiness and success in all their future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sister Carol Anne Murray, RSM, Bishop

Hendricken High School.
