H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE NORTH SMITHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC STUDENTS ON

THEIR PERFORMANCES AT THE HERITAGE BOSTON MUSIC FESTIVAL

     WHEREAS, Under the devoted tutelage of North Smithfield High School Music

2

Directors Fritz Benz and Regina McAdam, and the watchful eyes of twelve very proud parent-

3

chaperons, 140 students representing North Smithfield High School and our state, sang their

4

hearts out, and delighted judges with their instrumental stylings, at the recent Heritage Boston

5

Music Festival; and

6

     WHEREAS, Vying against numerous other teams from up and down the eastern

7

seaboard, the high school's talented Chamber Choir earned a Gold rating, the 1st place award, and

8

the Outstanding Choral Group Award, and the Women's Chorus also earned its members a gold

9

rating; and

10

     WHEREAS, Receiving their own accolades, the school's Symphonic Band and Jazz

11

Ensemble both earned Gold ratings and 1st place honors, and the Concert Band earned a Gold

12

rating and a 2nd place honor; and

13

     WHEREAS, In addition, special awards were given to groups and combinations of

14

groups who earned very high scores during their festival performances. Ultimately, the North

15

Smithfield High School bands won the Instrumental Sweepstakes Trophy for most Outstanding

16

Instrumental Program and the school's Choirs earned the Choral Sweepstakes Trophy for most

17

Outstanding Choral Program. In addition, the combination of the Bands, Jazz Band, and Chamber

18

Choir were honored with the Adjudicators Award for high average scores above 92 for the bands,

19

and 95 for the chorus; and

     WHEREAS, Five Heritage "Ovation" awards were presented at the Festival to individual

2

students singled out for special recognition. Of the five awards, four were presented to North

3

Smithfield High School's Music students, Ian Pascoe, Matt Ether, Sarah Pugliese, and Lana

4

Delasanta, and the entire North Smithfield High School Music Program earned the Festival

5

Sweepstakes Award for the most Outstanding Total Music Program at the Festival; and

6

     WHEREAS, Perhaps as equally impressive as the honors and accolades attained by these

7

very talented student-musicians during this whirlwind musical competition, was their

8

performance off the stage as they represented their school and our state with spirit, pride, and

9

excellence; now, therefore be it

10

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

11

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Music Directors Fritz Benz and Regina McAdam

12

and the entire 140 North Smithfield High School Music students who participated in the Heritage

13

Boston Music Festival for their outstanding performances. We furthermore wish them the best of

14

luck and much success in all their future endeavors; and be it further

15

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

16

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Fritz Benz and Regina McAdam.
