H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

JOYOUSLY CELEBRATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HOPE SERVICE STATION IN

SCITUATE, RHODE ISLAND, AND HONORING ITS OWNER, SAM BROWN

     WHEREAS, Sam Brown, lifelong owner of the Hope Service station in Scituate, and the

2

entire Scituate community, joyously celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Hope Service Station

3

on February 23, 2015; and

4

     WHEREAS, Sam Brown, a dedicated family man married to Maureen, is the father of

5

two daughters, Gravel Brown and Christine Woodbury, and is the grandfather of two

6

granddaughters. He opened his service station in 1965, at 1 Hope Avenue, in Scituate and has

7

watched his business grow from having only two customers, a 105 year old man and his 90 year

8

old girlfriend, to the present with approximately 2,500 people, most of whom are repeat

9

customers because they value the reliability, honesty, diligence, friendliness and promptness that

10

has always been a mainstay of the service Mr. Brown offers everyday at his service station; and

11

     WHEREAS, Sam Brown has always been a man who values loyalty and giving back to

12

his community. He has one employee, Joe Pacheco, who has worked for him at his service station

13

for forty-three years. He has sponsored a Little League team, a men’s softball team, and was

14

President of the gun club. When Sam was elected to the Scituate Town Council in the 1970s, he

15

was the top vote getter. As a member of the Town Council for two terms, Sam brought the same

16

desire to “help people” and “do the right thing” that has imbued his business ethic since the first

17

day he opened the Hope Service Station; now, therefore be it

18

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

19

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Mr. Sam Brown on the joyous occasion of the 50th

Anniversary of his business, the Hope Service Station in Scituate, Rhode Island. May the Scituate

2

community be blessed with many more years of the exemplary service provided daily by his

3

business; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Sam Brown.
