H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING PAUL HARRINGTON ON HIS PROMOTION TO THE POSITION OF

JOINT INDUSTRY COUNCIL COORDINATOR WITH THE AMALGAMATED TRANSIT

UNION

     WHEREAS, Paul "Fuzzy" Harrington has worked tirelessly in his professional career in

support of labor rights for all of Rhode Island’s hard working men and women, and in support of

public transportation in Rhode Island and all the riders and customers of the Rhode Island Public

Transit Authority; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harrington began his career in 1994, as a driver for the Rhode Island

Public Transit Authority (RIPTA). His abiding concern for the RIPTA riders and his fellow

coworkers, was the impetus that led him to get involved with his union; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harrington was first elected to the Executive Board of the

Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 618 in 2002. In 2011, he was chosen by his fellow members

to represent their interests as the President/Business Agent of the Local. From the first day he was

elected, Paul has fought diligently on behalf of not just his fellow union members, but also on

behalf of all Rhode Islanders. He has strongly advocated in support of proper funding and

management for RIPTA and for treating riders with respect and dignity; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harrington's work ethic and compassion for others impressed the

Nationally elected leadership team and he is now being asked to represent the Amalgamated

Transit Union, and public transportation patrons on the national level in the newly created

position as the Joint Industry Council Coordinator; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Mr. Paul Harrington on his promotion to the position

of Joint Industry Council Coordinator for the Amalgamated Transit Union AFL/CIO; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Paul Harrington.
