H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON THE UNTIMELY PASSING OF NANCY

STRAIN BELISLE

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the untimely passing

2

of Nancy Belisle, devoted wife for twenty-five years to Cumberland American Little League

3

baseball coach David P. Belisle, and the very loving and beloved mother of four sons, Brendon,

4

Brian, James, and John; and

5

     WHEREAS, Nancy Belisle was a daughter of William and Gail Strain, and was the

6

cherished sister of Keri-Ann McLaughlin and her husband, Alan, William Strain and his wife,

7

Tara, Susan Guay and her husband, Paul, and Michael P. Strain. She was also the loving

8

daughter-in-law of Bill and Yvette Belisle, sister-in-law to William Belisle, John Belisle and his

9

wife, Barbara, and Peter Belisle and his wife, Carolyn, and the doting auntie to many nieces and

10

nephews; and

11

     WHEREAS, Dave Belisle, Nancy's husband, was a coach when she met him in 1986, and

12

from their first meeting, she knew it was special, and within two weeks, she knew he was the man

13

she would marry; and

14

     WHEREAS, In August of 2013, Mrs. Belisle was diagnosed and thus began an intrepid

15

battle with colon cancer. From the outset, she courageously refused to let the cancer define her or

16

her life, and although those around her were always wholly supportive, she rebuffed sympathy

17

and disallowed pity. Until the end, as she had been throughout her life, Nancy Belisle was a

18

woman of character and compassion; and

19

     WHEREAS, Nancy supported her husband and sons throughout their numerous sporting

events and was a constant fixture at little league baseball games and youth hockey games.

2

Despite her illness, and while undergoing chemo treatments, she watched and cheered the

3

Cumberland Little League team throughout their World Series run in the summer of 2014; and

4

     WHEREAS, Nancy Belisle was a sweet and nurturing mom, a devoted and supportive

5

wife, and a shining star whose incredible love filled the lives and hearts of her family and many

6

friends. She brightened and enriched the lives of all around her, and she will be dearly missed

7

and forever remembered; now, therefore be it

8

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

9

Providence Plantations hereby expresses our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Nancy

10

Belisle; and be it further

11

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

12

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to David P. Belisle.
