H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE RHODE ISLAND CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION

TO PETITION THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO STUDY THE POSSIBILITY OF

CONSTRUCTING A JETTY AT THE MOUTH OF THE NARROW RIVER

     WHEREAS, Recent reports, issued by the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management

2

Council, state that approximately seven percent of Rhode Island’s shoreline is critically eroding,

3

including the Narragansett Town Beach and the beach at the Dunes Club; and

4

     WHEREAS, Rhode Island’s beautiful coastline and world renowned beaches, especially

5

in the Town of Narragansett, are critical assets and key components to the economic vitality of

6

our state. Beach erosion diminishes property values and tourism, and has a negative impact on the

7

quality of life and the economy in Rhode Island; now, therefore be it

8

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

9

Providence Plantations respectfully requests the Rhode Island Congressional delegation to

10

petition the Army Corps of Engineers to study the possibility of constructing a jetty at the mouth

11

of the Narrow River to stop the erosion of the Narragansett Town Beach and the beach at the

12

Dunes Club, and to dredge the Narrow River to improve flow and water quality; and be it further

13

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

14

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the members of the Rhode Island Congressional

15

delegation.
