H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING BART DUNBAR ON BEING NAMED BOATER OF THE YEAR BY THE

RHODE ISLAND MARINE TRADES ASSOCIATION (RIMTA)

     WHEREAS, Bart Dunbar, Chairman of Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island and the

President of Bowen’s Wharf Company, has been selected by the Rhode Island Marine Trades

Association to be honored with the Boater of the Year Award for his dedication to making sailing

more accessible for many Rhode Islanders; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Dunbar came from a family immersed in the boating world. His father

was a yacht designer and Bart experienced the joys of sailing at an early age. He graduated from

Harvard University and taught steamship and sail training at the U.S. Naval Academy; and

     WHEREAS, Finding that perfect niche, Mr. Dunbar helped develop Bowen's Wharf in

the early 1970's and is the co-founder of Sail Newport and one of the incorporators of Barclay

Warburton’s American Sail Training Association, now known as Tall Ships America. In

addition, he is a founding father of Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island, and has been a strong

supporter of the local waterfront and the Preservation society; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Dunbar's success hasn’t simply been the result of good fortune, but is

due instead to his immense talents, amazing determination, a vast love for all the sea offers and a

true desire to share that joy with others; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates and honors Mr. Bart Dunbar on being named Boater

of the Year. We wish him "Fair Winds and Following Seas," and good health and much

happiness; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Bart Dunbar.
