S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING RUSSELL CHATEAUNEUF ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT

FROM PUBLIC SERVICE

     WHEREAS, Russ Chateauneuf is a twenty-six year veteran of public service. For the past

sixteen years, he has served as Chief of the Department of Environmental Management’s Office

1-3

of Water Resources Groundwater and Wetlands Protections Section, where he has devoted his

1-4

time, energy, and talents to protecting water, arguably our state’s most valuable asset; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, Not only are our very lives physically dependent upon water to continue

1-6

functioning, but we also need water to grow food, generate power, and run industries.

1-7

 Communities and individuals may continue to exist without many things, but they cannot be

1-8

deprived of water and survive for more than a few days; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, Mr. Chateauneuf manages statewide regulatory and non-regulatory

1-10

programs focusing on wetlands, groundwater, and non-point sources of pollution. In that capacity,

1-11

he has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership and has zealously protected Narragansett

1-12

Bay and our coastal ponds and their contributing watersheds; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, Our Ocean State and our citizenry have been better protected due to the

1-14

vision and guidance of Russell Chateauneuf. The programs and policies he has helped to establish

1-15

have protected and enriched our environment and will continue to do so for generations to come;

1-16

now, therefore be it  

1-17

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

1-18

hereby recognizes and thanks Russ Chateauneuf for his many years of outstanding service to our

1-19

state and our environment. We moreover wish him good health, much happiness, and continued

1-20

success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-2

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Alicia Good, Assistant Director, DEM Office

2-3

of Water Resources.
