VALIDATING AND RATIFYING AMENDMENTS TO THE HOME RULE CHARTER OF | |
|
THE CITY OF EAST PROVIDENCE | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
|

SECTION 1. In all respects in which the amendments to the Home Rule charter of the |
|

city of East Providence, which amendments were adopted and approved by the electors of the city |
|
1-3 |
of East Providence on November 6, 2012, may require ratification, confirmation, validation, or |
|
1-4 |
enactment by the general assembly, but in no other respects, the provisions of said amendments |
|
1-5 |
to the Home Rule Charter of the city of East Providence are hereby ratified, confirmed, validated |
|
1-6 |
and enacted. It is the express intention of the general assembly, by the passage of this act, to give |
|
1-7 |
effect to, ratify, confirm, validate and enact those provisions of the said amendments to the Home |
|
1-8 |
Rule Charter of the city of East Providence which require ratification, confirmation, validation or |
|
1-9 |
enactment and by the passage of this act, the legislature does hereby ratify, confirm, validate and |
|
1-10 |
enact said provisions, but nothing in this act shall be construed to abrogate or impair the powers |
|
1-11 |
now or hereafter granted to cities and towns by the Home Rule amendment and other applicable |
|
1-12 |
laws of the state of Rhode Island or those rights retained by said city of East Providence in its |
|
1-13 |
Home Rule Charter. |
|
1-14 |
SECTION 2. If any provision of this act, or the application thereof to the city of East |
|
1-15 |
Providence or to any person or circumstance is deemed invalid for any reason, the remainder of |
|
1-16 |
this act, or the application of such provision to said city or other persons or circumstances shall |
|
1-17 |
not be affected thereby, and to this end the provisions of this act are declared to be severable. |

2-18 |
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
