A N A C T

RELATING TO EDUCATION - SCHOOL COMMITTEES AND SUPERINTENDENTS -

STUDENT DRESS CODE POLICY IN THE CITY OF CENTRAL FALLS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 16-2 of the General Laws entitled "School Committees and

Superintendents" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     16-2-33.2. City of Central Falls - School dress code. – The Central Falls school district

1-4

governing board, in conjunction with the superintendent, may adopt a school dress code for

1-5

Central Falls primary, elementary, junior, and senior high school students; provided that:

     (1) The principal, staff, and parents have had an opportunity to offer suggestions and

1-7

comments;

1-8

     (2) The dress code shall be adopted at a time determined by the governing board, and the

1-9

governing board shall give notice to the parents three (3) months before a dress code is required;

and

1-11

     (3) That on days when a nationally recognized youth organization has a scheduled

1-12

function, students participating in this organization shall be exempt from the dress code on that

1-13

day.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would allow the city of Central Falls to adopt a school-wide dress code policy.
