HONORING LILLIAN CARDULLO ON THE OCCASION OF HER 110TH BIRTHDAY

     WHEREAS, Lillian Cardullo was born eleven decades ago on May 20th of 1903.

Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States that year, a loaf of bread cost 4¢,

1-3

the average home was only $4,000, the champions of the American and National leagues met for

1-4

the first time in what became known as the World Series, Boston beat Pittsburgh, and the Wright

1-5

Brothers made aviation history by flying the world's first powered airplane at Kitty Hawk; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Born and raised in Rhode Island, Mrs. Cardullo was the former "floor lady"

1-7

at the old National Collapsible Tube Corporation in Providence.  She married the “love of her

1-8

life,” Peter Cardullo, and although her hubby passed away more than five decades ago, she never

1-9

entertained the idea of marrying again.  She is content to be mother to her two sons, Robert and

1-10

Peter, and doting grandmother to her four beautiful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren;

and

     WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Cardullo created a warm and loving home for her

1-13

family.  Until the age of 104, she was still cleaning her own house and her family will always

1-14

consider her macaroni and gravy and homemade soup to be the best in the state; and

1-15

     WHEREAS, As a resident of Golden Crest Nursing Centre in North Providence, Mrs.

1-16

Cardullo no longer has to worry about doing the cooking and cleaning, but she likes to keep

1-17

herself active and her mind sharp by playing games like bridge and Scrabble; and

1-18

     WHEREAS, Filled with a wisdom that can only be gained through life’s joys and

1-19

tribulations, Mrs. Cardullo’s philosophy is simple: work hard, eat right, tell the truth, and treat

1-20

others right; and

     WHEREAS, Lillian Cardullo is our state’s oldest resident, but more importantly, she is a

2-22

dear friend to many and the beloved matriarch of her family. She has lived a long, happy, and

2-23

fulfilled life.  In 1903, the year she was born, the average life expectancy in the United States was

2-24

47 years old.  To the immense good fortune of all who have been blessed to be a part of her life,

2-25

Mrs. Cardullo has more than doubled that statistic, and her joyous spirit and exuberance along

2-26

that extraordinary journey have been inspiring; now, therefore be it

2-27

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-28

hereby honors Lillian Cardullo on the occasion of her 110th Birthday and congratulates her on

2-29

being our state’s oldest resident.  We moreover extend our sincerest wishes for her continued

2-30

happiness and health, and for all the very best that life has to offer; and be it further

2-31

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-32

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Lillian Cardullo.
