POSTHUMOUSLY HONORING ROBERT J. SULLIVAN ON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE

RHODE ISLAND RADIO HALL OF FAME

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame was established in 2008 to celebrate

the medium's history in the Ocean State. Being an Inductee into the organization is a momentous

1-3

tribute to those who have played a significant role in radio’s history and growth in our state; and

     WHEREAS, The late Robert J. Sullivan, better know as “Radio Bob” to WADK-AM

1-5

listeners, has been posthumously honored as one of the class of 2013’s inductees; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Born in 1949 to James and Ruth Sullivan of Newport, Bob was a graduate

1-7

of Rogers High School and studied journalism at the University of Rhode Island; and

1-8

     WHEREAS, Bob had a passion for radio. In 1972, he began working part-time at the

1-9

WADK studio covering the Middletown and Portsmouth council meetings. In 1983, he became

1-10

an on-air personality by inheriting the “Open Forum” call-in show from Francis “Sully” Sullivan. 

1-11

His career in radio spanned more than thirty-five years; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, A consummate Newporter, Bob was one of the original judges for the Irish

1-13

Coffee Competition held in Newport. He was also a member of the Newport Jaycees, a

1-14

toastmaster at the Hibernian St. Patrick’s Day Roast, and Grand Marshall for the 41st St. Patrick's

1-15

Day Parade in Newport; and

1-16

     WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Bob Sullivan earned a reputation for excellence. 

1-17

He passed away in 2007, but his memorable quick wit, sense of humor, and wide range of

1-18

interests left an enduring impact on the industry and a legacy that is worthy of our recognition

1-19

and emulation; now, therefore be it

2-20

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-21

hereby honors the late Bob Sullivan on his induction into the Rhode Island Radio Hall of Fame;

2-22

and be it further

2-23

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-24

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Nancy H. Sullivan.
