S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOYCE WILLIAMS

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Alice "Joyce"

1-2

Williams, beloved wife of the late Rev. Robert L. Williams, beloved mother and grandmother,

1-3

and widely-respected member of the Aquidneck Island community; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, There is a wise axiom that states, "If you want something done, ask a busy

1-5

person to do it."  Never was an adage more apt than in reference to Joyce Williams; and   

1-6

     WHEREAS, Known for her myriad of community contributions, Joyce Williams was a

1-7

force to be reckoned with when she focused her energies on a noble cause.  She served as

1-8

President of the Newport County chapter of the NAACP and was a trustee of the Community

1-9

Baptist Church in Newport; and

1-10

     WHEREAS, In addition to her community efforts, Ms. Williams had been employed as a

1-11

top executive assistant at McLaughlin Research Corporation for more than three decades, retiring

1-12

two years ago; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, Joyce Williams was adored by family and friends, who lovingly described

1-14

her as "a God fearing woman of intelligence, strength, compassion, and love. She had a stature

1-15

that was larger that life and will be missed by all who knew her"; now, therefore be it

1-16

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

1-17

hereby extends its deepest sympathy on the passing of Joyce Williams; and be it further

2-18

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-19

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Family of Joyce Williams.
