A N A C T

RELATING TO ELECTIONS - MAIL BALLOTS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 17-20-25 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-20 entitled "Mail

Ballots" is hereby repealed.

     17-20-25. Return of unused ballots. -- Every voter who has received a mail ballot and

has not cast it shall nevertheless return the unvoted ballot and its uncertified enclosing envelope

to the state board or local board with a statement that the voter is not using the mail ballot, before

1-6

nine o'clock (9:00) p.m. on election day.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage and shall apply to all elections and

unused ballots occurring on and after the effective date.

     This act would repeal the section of the general laws that makes it mandatory for every

voter who received a mail ballot, but did not cast his/her vote, to return the unvoted ballot and its

uncertified enclosing envelope to the state board or local board before nine o’clock (9:00) pm on

election day.

     This act would take effect upon passage and would apply to all elections and unused

2-6

ballots occurring on and after the effective date of this act.
