A N A C T

RELATING TO CRIMINAL LAW - PAROLE BOARD

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Doyle, Jabour, McCaffrey, and Lynch

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 13-8-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 13-8 entitled "Parole" is

hereby amended to read as follows:

     13-8-1. Parole board -- Appointment and terms of members. -- Within the department

1-4

of corrections there shall be a parole board consisting of seven (7) qualified electors of the state

1-5

appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the senate. In the month of January in

1-6

each year, the governor shall appoint one or more members of the board to serve in place of

1-7

members whose terms have expired, for a term of three (3) years, and until his, her, or their

1-8

successors have been appointed and qualified. No appointee, including the chairperson, shall

1-9

serve more than three (3) terms.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
