RELATING TO BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONS - NURSING HOME

ADMINISTRATORS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 5-45-8 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-45 entitled "Nursing

Home Administrators" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     5-45-8. Licensure in other jurisdictions. -- The department may issue a nursing home

1-4

administrator's license without examination, to any person who holds a current license in good

1-5

standing as a nursing home administrator from another jurisdiction; provided, that the department

1-6

finds that the individual meets education and experience requirements as established by the

1-7

department regulation. For purposes of this section the department shall treat an applicant’s

1-8

experience in a management position having direct responsibility for overseeing and directing a

1-9

number of licensed nursing home administrators as equivalent to experience as an administrator

1-10

of a licensed long-term care facility.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would allow an applicant for a nursing home administrator’s license from

another jurisdiction to qualify for a license in Rhode Island, even if their most recent experience

was in a management position with direct responsibility for overseeing licensed nursing home

administrators rather than as an administrator of a facility.
