H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING AUSTIN PORTO UPON ACHIEVING SCOUTING'S

MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America has a long and impressive history of preparing

young men to assume responsibility in their communities. The Boy Scouts is one of the largest

1-3

youth organizations in the United States. The rank of Eagle Scout, which was first introduced in

1-4

1911, is the highest a young man can attain in the Boy Scouts, and the title of Eagle Scout is held

1-5

for life; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Austin Porto is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious

1-7

achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and

1-8

     WHEREAS, Austin has distinguished himself through his continued performance of

1-9

active service in Scouting. He has demonstrated exemplary leadership abilities and has exhibited

1-10

a strong sense of duty, honor, and patriotism, making him a clear example of the best qualities of

1-11

American youth; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Austin Porto of Troop 6, Bristol, Rhode Island, has completed the arduous

1-13

and demanding requirements necessary to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. As the highlight

1-14

of his scouting years and to complete the final step toward obtaining the rank of Eagle, Austin

1-15

planned, developed, and carried out an extensive Eagle Scout service project. His Eagle Project

1-16

consisted of paving an outdoor patio at a recreational area on Barker Lane in Warren for the

1-17

residents who may need a wheelchair to access the area. Austin and fellow scouts devoted

1-18

countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his project for the benefit of the

1-19

community; and

2-20

     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to

2-21

celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Eagle Scout Austin Porto exemplifies

2-22

everything an Eagle Scout should be and all that we hope our children will grow to be; now,

2-23

therefore be it

2-24

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-25

Providence Plantations hereby honors Austin Porto for all he has done to attain the rank of Eagle

2-26

within the Boy Scouts of America at his Court of Honor, Friday, June 21, 2013; and be it further

2-27

      RESOLVED, That we hereby extend our deepest appreciation to Austin for his untiring

2-28

service to the community and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication by which

2-29

the youth of this great state may follow. We send our very best wishes to Eagle Scout Austin

2-30

Porto and wish him good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it further

2-31

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-32

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Austin Porto.
