H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING MARK DEVOL

ON ATTAINING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, Not every boy, nor even every Scout, qualifies for the high rank of Eagle.

Strenuous physical hurdles, high mental requirements, strong personal character, indomitable

1-3

spirit, and a commitment to community service are a rare combination of qualities and

1-4

achievements to find in one person. Mark Devol is just such an extraordinary young man, and his

1-5

accomplishments are truly worthy and deserving of our recognition and praise; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Mark Devol, a member of Troop 6, Bristol, quickly advanced through the

1-7

ranks to attain the rank of Eagle. Using his skills and abilities for the common good, Mark earned

1-8

twenty-nine merit badges. Through perseverance and determination, he has attained the highest

1-9

rank in scouting, the Eagle, by meeting all the extensive requirements; and

1-10

     WHEREAS, Mark has demonstrated his leadership skills by holding the position of

1-11

Quartermaster; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Marks Eagle Project was to take on the challenge of organizing and

1-13

planning major renovations of the chicken coop at Mount Hope Farm, a working farm that is a

1-14

big draw for younger visitors.  Mark refurbished the coop and installed new fencing around it.

1-15

Thanks to Mark’s great efforts, the visitors, especially the children, can enjoy the farm. Mark and

1-16

fellow scouts devoted countless hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his project;

1-17

and

1-18

     WHEREAS, Mark Devol upholds the dignity and virtue of a true Eagle, and has proven

1-19

himself to be worthy of trust and a truly dynamic leader; now, therefore be it

2-20

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-21

Providence Plantations hereby honors Mark Devol on attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

2-22

Convinced that Mark’s distinguished career in Scouting will prepare him for a life replete with

2-23

accomplishments and success, we are certain that he will continue to dedicate a large part of that

2-24

life to the service of others. We extend our best wishes to Mark at his Eagle Court of Honor on

2-25

Friday, June 21, 2013; and be it further

2-26

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby authorized and directed to

2-27

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Mark Devol.
