CONGRATULATING THE LINCOLN HOUSING AUTHORITY ON THE 50TH

ANNIVERSARY OF ITS INCORPORATION

     WHEREAS, Since its incorporation on June 20th of 1963, the Lincoln Housing Authority

1-2

(LHA) has been “providing affordable, decent, safe, and sanitary housing to individuals and

1-3

families with low-incomes in Lincoln, Rhode Island”; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Over the past five decades, the LHA has assisted more than 3,000 needy

1-5

families, most of whom are elderly individuals; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, The mission of the Lincoln Housing Authority is to “promote adequate and

1-7

affordable housing, economic opportunity, and a suitable living environment free from

1-8

discrimination”; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, To date, the LHA has two sites, Lincoln Manor and Manville Manor, that

1-10

provide homes for the elderly or persons with disabilities, with a total of 246 units. In addition,

1-11

the Authority provides six units of family housing at Woodland Terrace and administers 124

1-12

Housing Choice Vouchers; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, The LHA has built a solid reputation and has earned myriad recognitions for

1-14

providing affordable housing for the citizens of Lincoln. The Authority was honored with the

1-15

Seniors for Education Award of Merit, Cell Phones for Domestic Violence Award of Excellence,

1-16

the 2007 Bank of America Neighborhood Builder Award, and the 2007 MetLife Foundation

1-17

Police Community Partnership Award, to name just a few; and

1-18

     WHEREAS, In addition, the outstanding management of the LHA’s properties has been

1-19

honored numerous times with a “High Performing” rating issued by The United States

1-20

Department of Housing and Urban Development; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-2

Providence Plantations hereby applauds and recognizes the leadership and management of the

2-3

Lincoln Housing Authority for their dedicated service to the people of Lincoln and congratulates

2-4

them on the auspicious occasion of the Authority’s 50th Anniversary; and be it further

2-5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Paul St. Germain, Chairman of the Board of

2-7

Commissioners for the Lincoln Housing Authority.
