CONGRATULATING DR. RICHARD DROLET ON HIS SELECTION AS THE 2013 RHODE

ISLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

     WHEREAS, Richard Drolet, Principal of North Cumberland Middle School, has been

selected as the 2013 Rhode Island Middle School Principal of the Year in recognition of his

1-3

outstanding leadership as an active, front-line middle school principal; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, The Principal of the Year award program annually draws attention to

1-5

outstanding school leaders who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities

1-6

for students. These principals are acknowledged by their peers for the exemplary contributions

1-7

they have made to the profession. The program honors school principals who have demonstrated

1-8

excellence in collaborative leadership, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and personalization;

1-9

and

1-10

     WHEREAS, In his daily work at North Cumberland Middle School, Dr. Drolet builds

1-11

strong relationships among teachers, students, and families. A true student-centered leader, he

1-12

ensures that all decisions are based on data and are made in the best interests of the students; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, A resident of North Smithfield, Dr. Drolet earned a Bachelor of Arts degree

1-14

in Sociology from the University of Colorado and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from

1-15

Rhode Island College. He went on to earn a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in

1-16

Administration and Educational Leadership from Cambridge College, and a Doctor of Education

1-17

degree in Educational Leadership from Johnson and Wales University. After teaching at the

1-18

elementary and middle school levels for five years and serving as assistant principal for one year,

1-19

Dr. Drolet began his tenure at North Cumberland Middle School in July 2006. He held this

1-20

position for two years before taking on the role of Principal; and

     WHEREAS, Principal Drolet keeps in touch with his students by locating a desk in the

2-2

hallway so he is easily approached by students as they make their way to and from class. They

2-3

view him as a confident, supportive, involved, and very cool man; now, therefore be it

2-4

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-5

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Dr. Richard Drolet on being named the 2013 Rhode

2-6

Island Middle School Principal of the Year. He is a credit to his profession and a treasure to his

2-7

students and teachers; and be it further

2-8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dr. Richard Drolet.
