RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT - RHODE ISLAND COMMERCE

CORPORATION - BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-64 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Economic

Development Corporation" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     42-64-39. Business development center. -- There shall be established within the Rhode

Island commerce corporation a business development center that supports businesses and projects

1-5

through a customer centric approach to providing assistance or support as determined by the

1-6

board of directors for businesses within Rhode Island to maintain, expand and to create new

1-7

employment opportunities. The center shall provide a concierge-level of call service that meets

1-8

standards established by the board to assist businesses in navigating through the various

1-9

permitting and regulatory requirements and to reduce obstacles to growth within the state. The

1-10

services shall include but not be limited to peer to peer assistance, mentoring, finance options,

1-11

and services as the board may determine.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on January 1, 2014.
