H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING ALEXANDER J. CONWAY UPON ACHIEVING

SCOUTING'S MOST DISTINGUISHED HONOR, THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America has a long and impressive history of preparing

young men to assume responsibility in their communities. The Boy Scouts of America is one of

1-3

the largest youth organizations in the United States. The rank of Eagle Scout, which was first

1-4

introduced in 1911, is the highest a young man can attain in the Boy Scouts, and the title of Eagle

1-5

Scout is held for life; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Alexander J. Conway is a remarkable young man worthy of this prestigious

1-7

achievement and his accomplishments are truly deserving of our recognition; and

1-8

     WHEREAS, Alexander has distinguished himself through his continued performance of

1-9

active service in Scouting. He has demonstrated exemplary leadership abilities and has exhibited

1-10

a strong sense of duty, honor, and patriotism, making him a clear example of the best qualities of

1-11

American youth; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Alexander J. Conway of Troop 1, Arnold Mills, Rhode Island, has

1-13

completed the arduous and demanding requirements necessary to be awarded the rank of Eagle

1-14

Scout. He completed fifty Merit Badges, twenty-nine more than the required twenty-one.

1-15

Additionally, Alexander earned the Boy Scouts of America National Outdoors Award for

1-16

Aquatics. This program, conceived by the National Camping Task Force of the Boy Scouts of

1-17

America, includes a series of five badges designed to recognize a Boy Scout who has

1-18

exemplary knowledge and experience in performing high-level outdoor activities.

1-19

     WHEREAS, As the highlight of his scouting years and to complete the final step toward

1-20

obtaining the rank of Eagle, Alexander planned and carried out an extensive Eagle Scout service

2-1

project. His Eagle project was to lead a team of volunteers to paint a newly built ADA-accessible

2-2

hallway in the Cumberland Hill Elementary School, where he attended grade school. Alexander

2-3

and his team painted the walls and added a mural of the school’s mascot with the school slogan

2-4

“Cumberland Hill Comets Care.” Alexander, volunteers, and fellow scouts devoted countless

2-5

hours and an amazing amount of energy carrying out his project for the benefit of the staff and

2-6

students attending the school; and

2-7

     WHEREAS, Currently an honor roll student at Bishop Feehan High School, Alex has

2-8

earned an honorable mention in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest and received awards for his

2-9

participation on the cross country and track teams. He actively participates in extra curricular

2-10

activities such as Peer Ministry, preparing Thanksgiving Baskets, and Santa Shop. Alex has

2-11

coached the Cumberland Youth Flag Football League. During the summer months he has worked

2-12

full-time at the Yawgoog Boy Scout Reservation as a camp counselor and lifeguard. After

2-13

graduation in June, Alexander plans on attending Assumption College, where he will pursue a

2-14

Bachelor’s Degree and enjoy running cross country and track; and

2-15

     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to

2-16

celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Eagle Scout Alexander J. Conway

2-17

exemplifies everything an Eagle Scout should be and all that we hope our children will grow to

2-18

be; now, therefore be it

2-19

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-20

Providence Plantations honors Alexander J. Conway for all he has done to attain the rank of

2-21

Eagle within the Boy Scouts of America; and be it further

2-22

     RESOLVED, That this House extends our deepest appreciation to Alexander for his

2-23

untiring service to the community and for setting a high standard of commitment and dedication

2-24

by which the youth of this great state may follow. We send our very best wishes to Alexander J.

2-25

Conway and wish him good health and happiness in the months and years ahead; and be it further

2-26

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-27

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Eagle Scout Alexander J. Conway.
