LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS - SMALL BUSINESSES - WORKERS

COMPENSATION

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Handy, Lombardi, Nunes, Tomasso, and Phillips

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-64 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Economic

Development Corporation" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     42-64-34.2. Workers' compensation subsidy program. – (a) The director, in

cooperation with the director of labor and training, shall establish a program that offers

1-5

businesses with ten (10) or less employees a subsidy to assist in the payment of workers'

1-6

compensation insurance coverage for newly hired apprentices during their first year of

1-7

employment.

     (b) The sum of one million dollars ($1,000,000) shall be appropriated to cover the cost of

1-9

this program.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
