RELATING TO PUBLIC UTILITIES AND CARRIERS

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Handy, Carnevale, Lombardi, Walsh, and Almeida

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 39-4 of the General Laws entitled "Hearings and Investigations" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     39-4-25. Reporting of natural gas emergencies. -- All natural gas emergency cases,

including, but not limited to, natural gas leaks, excessive carbon monoxide levels and explosions

1-5

must be reported to a dispatch office located in Rhode Island staffed by professionally trained gas

1-6

dispatchers.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on July 1, 2013.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would require that all natural gas emergencies be reported to a central dispatch

office staffed by professionally trained gas dispatchers.

     This act would take effect on July 1, 2013.
