H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE BURRILLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BRONCOS ON WINNING

THE DIVISION II FIELD HOCKEY TITLE

     WHEREAS, Excellence and success in field hockey can only be achieved through

strenuous practice, team play and spirit, dedicated coaching, and confidence; and

1-3

     WHEREAS, When the Burrillville Broncos faced the Smithfield Sentinels for the R.I.

1-4

Interscholastic League Division II Field Hockey Championship, the season’s truly ultimate

1-5

contest for both teams, the Broncos captured the title, marking their first state title since capturing

1-6

four-straight Division I crowns from 1984 to 1987; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, After the first half ended in a scoreless tie, with the Broncos mustering three

1-8

shots and the Sentinels only one, a lone Broncos’ score by sophomore forward Kasey Desrosiers,

1-9

well into the second half, produced the winning goal and resulted in a final game total of 1-0 for

1-10

the Broncos; and

1-11

     WHEREAS, With head coach Sue Burgess and team tri-captains Laura Hauser, Alex

1-12

LeClair, and Brittany Bebeau leading the team through a year of excitement and triumph, the

1-13

Broncos ended their unbeaten season at 16-0-1; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical development of

1-15

young people, preparing them for a brighter future by instilling the value of teamwork, the desire

1-16

for success, a routine of healthy living, and a sense of fair play; now, therefore be it

1-17

     RESOLVED, That this House of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

1-18

hereby enthusiastically congratulates the Burrillville Broncos on their outstanding season and

1-19

overall team record and for capturing the Division II Field Hockey Championship Title. We

1-20

furthermore wish team members and coaches good health, much happiness, and continued

2-1

success in all their future endeavors; and be it further

2-2

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2-3

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sue Burgess, Head Coach of the Burrillville

2-4

Broncos.
