RELATING TO GENERAL ASSEMBLY -- JOINT COMMITTEE ON LEGISLATIVE

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 22-11 of the General Laws entitled "Joint Committee on

Legislative Services" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     22-11-3.6. General assembly member health insurance benefits. – Senators and

1-4

representatives of the general assembly shall pay a share of their health insurance benefits equal

1-5

to twenty percent (20%) of the cost of said benefits. Further, no senator or representative who

1-6

receives a similar taxpayer funded health care benefit from the state or any subdivision thereof, or

1-7

from any municipality of the state, shall be paid a state subsidy or emolument or waiver in lieu of

1-8

his or her refusal to accept the state health care benefit.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect the first Tuesday in January of the year 2015.

     This act would require senators and representatives to pay a share for their health

insurance benefits equal to twenty percent (20%) of the cost of benefits and would prohibit any

2-3

payment for waiving health insurance benefits and would prevent those who have a similar state

2-4

or municipality benefit to forego any emolument in lieu thereof.

     This act would take effect the first Tuesday in January of the year 2015.
