CONGRATULATING SAINT ANTOINE RESIDENCE ON THE OCCASION OF ITS

CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY

     WHEREAS, L’Hospice Saint Antoine is a nonprofit organization founded in 1913, by

1-2

Monsignor Charles Dauray and originally located on Hamlet Avenue in Woonsocket; and

1-3

     WHEREAS, Over the past ten decades L’Hospice has been relocated, rebuilt, and

1-4

renamed Saint Antoine Residence and has become the largest, oldest, and, arguably, one of the

1-5

very best long-term care facilities in Rhode Island; and

1-6

     WHEREAS, Currently located on Rhodes Avenue, Saint Antoine Residence is a state-of-

1-7

the-art facility which now encompasses The Villa at Saint Antoine, an assisted living residence

1-8

located on the Saint Antoine campus; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, Saint Antoine Residence employs more than 400 staff persons who care for

1-10

its 260 residents. In addition, The Villa at Saint Antoine provides apartments for an additional 76

1-11

seniors; and

1-12

     WHEREAS, Not only has the physical campus at Saint Antoine Residence grown over

1-13

the years, but its purpose has also been expanded and amended in order to respond to the needs of

1-14

the people in the community. Originally a “home for the aged poor,” Saint Antoine’s now

1-15

provides a full range of care and cutting edge services to its residents as well as “maintaining a

1-16

home for the elderly, the sick, or the impaired”; and

1-17

     WHEREAS, The decision to move into an assisted living facility or to put a loved one

1-18

into a nursing home is often difficult. The hope is to find a tranquil place, operated by caring and

1-19

well-trained staff members, who will assist residents in receiving the type of extra care that they

1-20

require at that point in their lives; and

     WHEREAS, Saint Antoine Residence has been providing residents and their families

2-2

with security and quality service for the past century and has worked to provide a brighter

2-3

tomorrow for generations of elderly Rhode Islanders; now, therefore be it

2-4

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2-5

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Saint Antoine Residence for 100 years of munificent

2-6

care and commends the dedicated and compassionate staff for their efforts to ensure dignity and

2-7

security to those we love; and be it further

2-8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Wendy Fargnoli, Executive Director of Saint

2-10

Antoine Residence.
