CONGRATULATING THE EAST PROVIDENCE HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY TEAM ON

WINNING THE RHODE ISLAND 2012 DIVISION III STATE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

     WHEREAS, In a bitterly-fought three-game Division III high school hockey

championship series, East Providence emerged victorious. East Providence’s 2-1 win in the

1-3

thrilling final game of the series was aided by the clutch goaltending of Marc LaValley, a power

1-4

play tally by Kevin Hall, and a late penalty shot goal by Ryan Costa; and

1-5

     WHEREAS, This win is East Providence’s second State Hockey Championship and its

1-6

first since 2005. East Providence was led in fine fashion all season by first-year head coach Kevin

1-7

Croke. His steady demeanor, innovative strategies, and ability to motivate paid big dividends. He

1-8

molded the team into a tough, cohesive unit, one that peaked at the right time and played its best

1-9

hockey in the playoffs; and

1-10

     WHEREAS, Senior Captains Ryan Barry, Matthew Hall, and Keith Marquis were also

1-11

invaluable components who contributed to a sterling 13-3 regular season record, a 14-5-1 overall

1-12

regular season record, and a state title victory over Tolman in the playoff semi-finals and a tough

1-13

Mount Hope squad in the Championship series; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, Winning a state title requires a team entirely devoted to each other and the

1-15

goal of winning a championship. Every single player has to give all he and she has in support of a

1-16

larger goal. East Providence won the state championship due to the sacrifices and efforts of every

1-17

one of its players and coaches, including players James M. Carlson, Sarah B. Duarte, Troy

1-18

Derrick, Kyle Marquis, Ryan Galvao, Ryan Barry, Ryan M. Costa, Jared J. Estrella, Kevin N.

Hall, Matthew Hall, Paul M. Lukas, Tyler Maxwell, Andrew Gordon, Sean Freeney, Keith

Marquis, Joshua LeTendre, Shawn J. Medeiros, and Marc LaValley, Head Coach Kevin Croke,

Assistant Coach Mike Forrest, and volunteer Ian Ridlon; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-3

hereby congratulates the East Providence High School Hockey Team on winning the Rhode

2-4

Island 2012 Division III State Hockey Championship; and be it further

2-5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Head Coach Kevin Croke.
