PROCLAIMING APRIL 12TH OF 2012 TO BE "CHILD CARE AWARENESS DAY" IN THE

STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, On April 12th of 2012, a panoply of citizens representing myriad

1-2

organizations and institutions from across our state will gather to celebrate the very first annual

1-3

Child Care Awareness Day; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, This event is being held “to highlight the work of various organizations and

1-5

programs in the state that work every day to improve the lives of children, youth, and families by

1-6

providing high quality care and education”; and  

1-7

     WHEREAS, Research on the human brain reveals that an overwhelming amount of a

1-8

person’s lifetime brain development occurs during early childhood, before the age of three; and

1-9

     WHEREAS, To be prepared for success, our children must receive high quality child care

1-10

from caregivers who have the appropriate skills, education, and training; and   

1-11

     WHEREAS, A child care teacher’s day is spent interacting with children and caring for

1-12

their needs, because it is through play, interaction, and socializing that children learn the

1-13

fundamentals about others as well as the world around them; and

1-14

     WHEREAS, High quality child care is sensitive, responsive, personal, and

1-15

developmentally appropriate. It provides the proper nurturing that children need at one of the

1-16

most critical and vulnerable times in their lives; and

1-17

     WHEREAS, It is of immense importance that Rhode Island’s children receive the highest

1-18

quality care and are challenged at an early age, so that they may develop the necessary abilities to

1-19

thrive in adulthood and someday lead our state into an even brighter future; now, therefore be it

2-20

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

2-21

hereby proclaims the 12th of April, 2012, to be the first annual “Child Care Awareness Day.”  We

2-22

urge all the citizens of the state to join with us in recognizing the tremendous skills, dedication,

2-23

diligence, and value of the laudable child care providers who protect and nourish our children and

2-24

equip them for future success; and be it further

2-25

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-26

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the President of the Child Care Directors

2-27

Association, the Director of Prevent Child Abuse RI, and the Chair of the Permanent Legislative

2-28

Commission on Child Care.
