A N A C T

RELATING TO TAXATION -- REFUND DEDUCTION FOR WATERFIRE

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Goodwin, Pichardo, Ruggerio, Perry, and Metts

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 44-30 of the General Laws entitled "Personal Income Tax" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     44-30-2.11. Refund deduction for contributions to Waterfire. – (a) There shall be

provided as a deduction from any refund from the Rhode Island personal income tax otherwise

1-5

due to a taxpayer for a taxable year a contribution to an entity established or to be established by

1-6

the city of Providence for the sole purpose of providing financial support for Waterfire events.

The provision for the contribution shall appear on the state personal income tax return as follows:

     Waterfire events fund.

     Check is you wish to contribute [ ] $1, [ ] $5, [ ] $10, or [ ] $ (Write in amount of

your tax REFUND for this program.).

     (b) The tax administrator shall annually forward by August 1, all contributions made to

the Waterfire events fund to the city treasurer of the city of Providence for deposit into a

1-13

restricted accounted devoted solely to the support of Waterfire events.

     (c) The provisions of this section shall commence for returns filed for the tax year ending

1-15

December 31, 2012.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
