RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT - COMMISSION ON STATE

STANDARDS AND TRAINING

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 42-28.2 of the General Laws entitled "Police Officers -

Commission on Standards and Training" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following

section:

     42-28.2-8.3. Educational requirements. - Crisis intervention training. – All municipal

1-5

police departments shall implement crisis intervention training within three (3) years. The police

1-6

departments may utilize in house, service or professional development money, time or trained

1-7

professionals within the police department to accomplish this requirement.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would require that within (3) years from its effective date, all municipal police

departments would be required to implement crisis intervention training, and would be authorized

to utilize their own in-house professional development personnel.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
