A N A C T

RELATING TO WORKERS' COMPENSATION -- EXEMPT EMPLOYERS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 28-29-5 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-29 entitled "Workers'

Compensation - General Provisions" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     28-29-5. Employers exempt. -- The provisions of chapters 29 – 38, inclusive, of this title

shall not apply to employers of employees engaged in domestic service or subject to the

1-5

provisions of section 28-29-7.2 or who employ three (3) or fewer workers or operatives regularly

1-6

in the same business or to employers of employees engaged in domestic service or agriculture,

1-7

except for employers engaged in occupations which the director declares hazardous, but

1-8

employers not engaged in hazardous occupations may, by complying with the provisions of

1-9

section 28-29-8, become subject to the provisions of those chapters.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
