A N A C T

RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 28-9.1-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-9.1 entitled

"Firefighters' Arbitration" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     28-9.1-7. Unresolved issues submitted to arbitration. – (a) In the event that the

bargaining agent and the corporate authorities are unable, within thirty (30) days from and

1-5

including the date of their first meeting, to reach an agreement on a contract, any and all

1-6

unresolved issues shall be submitted to arbitration.

     (b) Notwithstanding the term limitations to collective bargaining agreements contained in

1-8

this chapter, the arbitration board may, with the agreement of the parties, render a decision that

1-9

brings the bargaining agreement up to date, regardless of the amount of years in question.

     SECTION 2. Section 28-9.2-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-9.2 entitled "Municipal

Police Arbitration" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     28-9.2-7. Unresolved issues submitted to arbitration. – (a) In the event that the

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS

     This act would allow an arbitration board to render a decision regarding a collective

bargaining agreement for firefighters or municipal police for multiple years, with the agreement

3-3

of the parties, in order to bring the contract up to date.

3-4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
