A N A C T

RELATING TO TAXATION - CRANSTON

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Gallo, Miller, and Lanzi

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 44-3 of the General Laws entitled "Property Subject to Taxation" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     44-3-64. Cranston - Exemption from property taxes - Primary residences made

1-4

uninhabitable by flooding. -- The Cranston city council is hereby authorized to enact ordinances

1-5

granting an abatement of real estate taxes on a homeowner's primary residence for the period of

1-6

time in which the home was uninhabitable due to the flooding in the spring of 2010. The

1-7

ordinances shall specify eligibility for the abatement and provide for rules and regulations to

1-8

insure equitable application to eligible residents.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize the Cranston city council to enact ordinances granting an
