CONGRATULATING ROBERT C. BROMLEY ON BEING NAMED A 2011 STANDARD-

TIMES NEW BEDFORD MAN OF THE YEAR

     WHEREAS, Every year, the New Bedford Standard-Times has given the prestigious title

of Man of the Year to a person who lives in the region, who has had a major effect on the

1-3

community at large, and has in some way impacted the lives of those living in the area; and

1-4

     WHEREAS, Members of the community of New Bedford and the Standard-Times staff

1-5

nominate exceptional men from the city of New Bedford, and the recipients are selected by a

1-6

newsroom committee; and

1-7

     WHEREAS, Robert C. (Bob) Bromley has been chosen as a co-winner of this prestigious

1-8

award because of his outstanding contribution to the creation and growth of the Fort Taber-

1-9

Fort Rodman Military Museum; and

1-10

     WHEREAS, First opened in 2004, the museum began as a Fort Taber model, a handful of

1-11

photos, and a display case, and expanded exponentially to become "the biggest little military

1-12

museum in the country," according to Mayor Scott Lang; and

1-13

     WHEREAS, Thanks in large part to the consistent and selfless expenditure of time,

1-14

talent, and exemplary volunteer work by Bob, who serves as Vice President and Curator of the

1-15

Fort Taber-Fort Rodman Historical Association, the museum has seen 40,000 people visit since

1-16

inception and recently celebrated an expansion, nearly doubling its display space; now, therefore

1-17

be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

1-19

hereby congratulates Robert C. Bromley, an exceptional man who is truly deserving of the

1-20

gratitude and recognition he has been afforded, on being named a co-winner as the 2011

2-1

Standard-Times New Bedford Man of the Year. We applaud his accomplishments and wish him

2-2

the very best health and continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

2-3

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

2-4

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Robert C. Bromley.
